Hendrik Heinrichs is a researcher at the Helmholtz Research Centre Jülich and teaches at RWTH Aachen. He currently heads the BMBF project DUMFE (Dual use and Misuse of Research Results) and co-coordinates the workinggroup Neuroethics of the academy for Ethics in medicine (AEM).

He is active in ethics transfer and outreach, as the vice chair of the local commission for ethics in research and a regular panel member and chair in the ethics process of EU research funding.

Academic Background

Hendrik Heinrichs completed his PhD 2004 at the University of Essen as a member of the DFG Graduate College ‘European Society’ under supervision of D. Sturma (U. Essen) and D. Birnbacher (HHU Düsseldorf).

He then taught at the University of Erfurt where he joined the faculty (Habilitation) in 2010 after a short research stay at the University of Chicago with Martha Nussbaum.

In 2009 he joined the Helmholtz Research Centre at Jülich helping to set up an institute for Ethics in the Neurosciences. Since then he moved his academic association to the RWTH Aachen in 2018 and with the Ethics Institute into the larger Institute for Brain and Behaviour (INM-7).
